Most of the days I crave for simple and humble food as against anything exotic that requires a lot of planning in relation to grocery buying or the final preparation. Those are reserved for holidays or special occasions.
The baby potato with yogurt preparation is very simplistic yet full of flavor. It can be made in a few different ways and equally tasty. You can also use normal potatoes and dice them instead of using round baby potatoes. Serve it with whole wheat unleavened flat bread, naan or rice of your choice and you will have a fulfilling meal. I have served it with red rice just for a change.
I have used homemade basic garam masala and yogurt for this recipe but you can use the store bought one. Wondering what is basic garam masala? It is made by using just a few spices for using in everyday cooking to enhance the flavours. The intention is to not make the regular food spicy.

So lets start with the recipe
Prep time: 45 mins
Cook time: 15 mins
Serves: 3 ppl
Ingredients
25-30 baby potatoes
1 cup yogurt
1 clove garlic
1 tbsp garam masala
1 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 /2 tbsp oil
1 cup water
Method
Wash the potatoes to remove the dirt and put them for boiling. See that they are not too cooked as you will be cooking them again.
Beat the yogurt well and add 1 cup of water to it. Keep aside.
Peel the boiled potatoes and prick them with a toothpick. This is done so that the potatoes are able to absorb the yogurt gravy well.
Add oil or butter in a pan. When the oil is hot add cumin seeds, let them splutter. Simmer the heat add the chili powder and immediately add yogurt.
Now, this step is very important. When you add yogurt, stir it in the pan continuously or it will disintegrate into water and solids. For it to form a smooth gravy, it is necessary to stir it.
Now add the spices, salt and potatoes to the pan. Let it boil for some time until the potatoes and the gravy is well infused. That should take 7-8 minutes.
Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve with roti, naan or rice. Serve sliced onions to go with it.

I love potato curry. Potato in yogourt, never tried before. Will try it tonight. Thank you for the receipe.
